Results of our 2018 Holiday Party

LPGA Amateur Golf Association of Central PA Chapter had a great Holiday Party!
We got together on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Leeds Restaurant and Lounge.
This year we collected monetary donations for Downtown Daily Bread (A soup kitchen, shelter, and services for the hungry and homeless) run by Pine Street Presbyterian Church.   Below is a photo of Marie Thau and Joann Smith presenting the check for $760 to Anthony one of the volunteers at Downtown Daily Bread.

Competitive Golf Events Overview

One of the many benefits of LPGA Women Who Play membership is the opportunity to participate in competitive golf events for all levels of play. A number of golf events are offered on the local, regional, district, and national levels with all of these competitions using the golfers’ handicaps to enable everyone to join in the fun on equal footing. The three events include the following:
Individual Stroke Play
Team Scramble
Team Match Play
Players assume their own costs for golf and travel expenses to participate in any of these events. Many participants play a practice round on the course the day before the actual event to get familiar with the surroundings. An official handicap must also be available which can easily be established using the EWGA handicap tool.
Stroke Play and Team Scramble
The Central PA LPGA Women Who Play Chapter Championship is scheduled for Saturday, June 23 at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown. This event includes individual stroke play with five flights by handicap and scramble teams with balanced handicaps among the four players. Winners of these events move on to the regional competition on Saturday, August 4 at the Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, DE. With first and second place in five individual stroke flights and first and second in scramble competition, there could be up to18 golfers from our chapter moving on to regional play! The registration deadline for this event will be in early June.
Winners at the regional level from across the country in stroke play and team scramble will compete at the LPGA Women Who Play Championship Finals on October 13-14 at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL. Our chapter is proud to have a recent national champion with Chris Maffey winning her stroke play flight in 2015.
Team Match Play
Eight-member team match play begins at the district level on September 15 at Stockton Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, NJ with winners going on to the national event, called the LPGA Women Who Play Cup Finals, on November 2-3 at Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe, TX.
Only 112 golfers (14 teams) can compete in each of the eight district events so it is important to sign-up as soon as the online registration form is released on April 1. Check with others who might be interesting in playing to get your eight-player team.

Chapter members who have participated in these events enjoyed meeting new golfers from other areas, playing beautiful courses, enhancing knowledge of the game, and sharing the camaraderie of other woman golfers. If you have questions about these various competitions or how you can participate, please check our website www.centralpaewga.com or contact one of your officers for more information. The national LPGA Women Who Play website at www.lpgawomenwhoplay.com also offers details about the regional, district, and national events.

LPGA Women Who Play,  as part of your membership fees, provides a free handicap system and it is SUPER EASY TO USE. You can download it on your phone, tablet or PC. It is important to maintain your handicap to participate in Chapter Championships, Ryder Cup and Match Play events.

LPGA Women Who Play handicaps are sanctioned by USGA Rules and Guidelines.

Leagues are where we meet and play!

Our evening leagues include beginner, intermediate and advanced to be inclusive to all members. We believe we can improve integrating new members into our organization with volunteers in our leagues to meet, play and assist the new member with her assimilation into our evening league. The ladies 18 holes will remain for intermediate/advanced players.

Secondly, substitutes will have the option to be universal/roving with all evening leagues, if they would like to play other courses. The benefit would be two fold, the extension of friendship play, and filling “cancellation” openings of evening leagues. New to our leagues?..... check them out by going to Leagues tab above, and click on Chapter Leagues.  Check out our league policies here. Our leagues start the week of April 17, 2017 and end the week of August 28, 2017.
